This surgeon lets his patients who can’t afford healthcare pay for procedures with community service
Doctor Demetrio Aguila, who heads a surgery center in Norfolk, NE, called the Healing Hands of Nebraska, recently launched the M25 program, named for the 25th chapter of the book of Matthew in the Bible. Under this program, the surgeon allows people who can’t afford medical treatment to pay for medical procedures with volunteer work.
M25 works like this:
• The patient needs surgery or healthcare they cannot afford.
• Instead of dollars, they pay for the surgery with community service hours.
• For example, a patient needs surgery on their left ulnar nerve. Insurance fee is $5,000. A patient would need to donate 250 hours of community service to pay for their surgery.
The core mission of Healing Hands of Nebraska, from its inception, has been to offer world-class healthcare to all comers in a way that’s compassionate, innovative, forward-thinking, affordable, and fair.
