This reusable cling wrap keeps your fruits and veggies fresh, and it is plastic-free!
Almost every home has that plastic cling wrap roll, used to seal food containers, fruits and vegetables to keep them fresh over a longer period of time. But have you ever thought how much plastic waste is generated by this simple, everyday-use kitchen item?
Thankfully, we now have an eco-friendly cling wrap made out of beeswax that not just preserves your food for a long time but can also be reused for several months.
Hoopoe On a Hill (HOH) is an enterprise in Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu (India) which sells organic honey, collected by the Paliyans, a tribal community. Of late, the Paliyans started selling beeswax too, which helped HOH come up with the idea of a reusable cling wrap.
These wraps look like thin cotton cloth-lined with beeswax. They can be used and reused for about 4-6 months at a stretch. For those who don’t know, beeswax has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties which protects your food.
“Beeswax does not have an odor of its own neither does it let the smell of your food stay,” says Priyashri from HOH, adding that “So it neither gives or absorbs the odor. All you need to do is put your wrap under water for a while, dry it and it is ready to be reused!”
